Gather - Grow - Give - Go
ChildrenJesus said, “Let the little children come unto me.”We believe that children are important to the life of the church and we want to provide a loving, caring, warm and positive setting for children to grow and learn the basics of faith. To contact us regarding our programs for children, contact the church office 770-478-6444, and ask for Carrie Stanley, or e-mail us at Carrie@jonesboroumc.com.
SUNDAY SCHOOLSunday is Funday at JFUMC! Our three children’s Sunday school classes meet at 9:40 in the Education Building. We use the dynamic “Rock Solid” curriculum by Cokesbury Publishing. “Rock Solid” leads us through an exciting year full of lessons which are all biblically based, church year related, theologically sound, experiential and relevant to the lives of today’s Christian children and families. We have many wonderful adults with decades of experience working in the area of children’s ministry who give of their time each week to educate our children about the Bible and what it means to be a Christian.
CHILDREN’S PROGRAMSChildren’s Church
Children ages K3-2nd grade are invited to join their families in “Big Church” at 11am every Sunday morning. Pastor George gives a special children’s message after which children are invited to return to their families or leave with adult volunteers to attend Children’s Church in room 205 of the Education Building. Children experience a Bible lesson, sing and pray. Parents may pick children up after the worship service.
Nursery Fun
Our nursery is staffed by loving, caring, professional people who have decades of experience caring for infants and young children. The nursery is open from 8:15-12:15 Sunday mornings, 5:00pm-9:00pm Wednesday evenings and for all other special worship services. Infants to children three years of age are welcome to stay in our nursery while parents are attending worship and Wednesday night activities. The church also has a set of pagers so that parents can sign in and take a pager and if they are needed, nursery staff can page them anywhere on the church campus.
Children’s Choirs
Alice Meyers is our Director of Children and Youth Choirs. Cherub Choir is for children ages K3-1st grade. Choir practice is every Wednesday night during the school year from 6:30-7:00pm. Children sing in church once per month. The Good News Singers is for children ages 2nd grade - 5th grade. Practice is every Wednesday night during the school year from 6:30-7:30pm. Children who come for choir practice should meet on the first floor of the Education Building.
BIG EVENTS FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
Vacation Bible School is a week of summer fun at JFUMC. Kids ages entering K5 through entering 6th grade are invited to come for a week of action packed Bible fun! VBS 2011 was “Shake It Up Cafe” the week of June 20-24 from 9am-12pm. Registration forms are available from the church office or at the welcome desk in the narthex.
Wesley’s Kids is a weekly summer program in which children learn a Bible lesson, sing, play, eat and grow. We seek to give kids life skills and to lead them in discovering how God’s word is relevant to their lives here in the modern world. Each session includes an enrichment activity which illustrates the day’s Bible lesson. Wesley’s Kids meets every Thursday in July from 9am-12pm. Registration forms are available in the church office or at the welcome desk in the narthex.
Trunks of Treats is JFUMC’s Halloween alternative. On October 31, church members and friends come, park around the perimeter of our parking lot, decorate their trunks, fill their trunks with lots of treats and wait for church kids and community kids to come around and “trunk or treat”. Stay safe this fall and come to church for treats!
Easter Egg Hunt! JFUMC is famous for our big community egg hunt. We spend weeks filling eggs with candy which is donated by church members, then we all come early Easter Saturday morning to “hide” eggs and set up prize tables. We love to see all the excited faces the day of the hunt, but we are even more honored and excited when our Saturday visitors come back and worship with us Easter Sunday.
Jonesboro United Methodist Preschool (JUMP) a morning program for K2-4 plus a Mother's Morning Out offering.
